Conducted by archaeologist, Dr. Matt Williamson, the cemetery at Fairhope Plantation was excavated on October 18 and 19, 2010. The condition of the cemetery and its proximity to the bluff put it in danger of being completely lost into the Sapelo River. The remains that were discovered here were reinterred with Maj. Gen. John McIntosh at Mallow Cemetery on October 23, 2010.
The photos of the skeletal remains are published by permission of the direct descendant, Billy McIntosh.
